PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Excited and motivated students with Medical/Biomedical and Environmental interests enjoy learning together in the BEAM Magnet at North Miami Beach Senior High School. Known for its quality teaching, BEAM.  A Gifted curriculum is an integral part of our curriculum..

The goals of BEAM are to help students:

• Gain an insight into their desired professions through career oriented externships
• Gain an understanding of work-site skills with the assistance of a qualified mentor
• Develop a career goal through community on-site experience and field trips
• Incorporate technology into their knowledge base
• Become involved with community projects and extracurricular activities
• Choose appropriate colleges and enhance their ability to be accepted to those colleges and to receive scholarships

• National Career Academy
• Winner of Lemelson/MIT Award and MIT Grant
• Summer Programs at UM, Barry, MDC and FIU

• Partnerships with Biomedical and Environmental Universities and Industries
• Student externships in health facilities and environmental facilities
• School facilities include Portable Internet lab and other high tech instrumentation

• Professional Biomedical and Environmental personnel working with students
• Dual Enrollment within the curriculum and during the summers
• Expanded opportunity to take AP classes
• Research Seminar is an available for upper classmen.

BEAM students, parents, community professionals and faculty work together to improve the school and community. Students work as researchers in health/biomedical and environmental/marine fields under the supervision of trained researchers. Upon completion of our program students will be able to demonstrate: interconnections of scientific knowledge, application of scientific discovery method and ability to utilize modern technology to further their education towards a career of their choice.

BEAM's Exciting Curriculum Includes:

* Computer simulations, interactive learning, experience, Internet research.
* Laboratory activities including utilization of modern scientific technology.
* Science infused into all academic courses.
* High tech experiences provided by outside resources in and out of the classroom.
